Description:

There is a Galapagos that cannot be discovered from a cruise deck or the comfort of traditional routes. It is the Galapagos of volcanic rock crunching under your boots, of silent cactus forests, and of Darwin's finches living where mass tourism doesn't reach.

We designed this itinerary for those who need the pulse of the trail to truly connect with a place. This isn’t a checklist of tourist attractions; it’s an active-paced expedition along little-known paths.

We’ll trade asphalt for lava rock, and crowds for secret beaches that take a bit of effort to reveal their beauty. We invite you to immerse yourself in the islands’ purest, wildest essence and discover, step by step, landscapes that feel like a hard-earned reward.

Itinerary:

DAY 1 · Arrival in San Cristóbal - La Lobería and El Barranco

Your trip begins in San Cristóbal. After checking into the hotel and having lunch, your guide will join you for a first hike to La Lobería and El Barranco. This rocky trail is the perfect introduction to the islands’ setting: a living cliff surrounded by wildlife that isn’t afraid of your presence.

Marine iguanas, swallow-tailed gulls, and blue-footed boobies share this place. At the end of the walk, you’ll have time to cool off and enjoy relaxed snorkeling right from the beach.

Activities: hiking, wildlife watching, beach, snorkeling.
Highlights: San Cristóbal, La Lobería, and El Barranco.

Today starts early to take advantage of the morning cool. The terrain is rocky and demanding, a clear reminder of the island’s volcanic nature.

Your goal is Playa Baquerizo, a little-visited coastal spot due to its remote location. When you arrive, the reward is complete: a solitary bay where you can swim and snorkel alongside sea lions and iguanas, knowing every meter you walked was worth it.

The afternoon is yours to explore the islands’ history at the Interpretation Center or watch the sunset on nearby beaches like Mann or Carola.

Activities: hiking, endemic flora and fauna watching, snorkeling, boating.
Highlights: Playa Baquerizo, Playa Mann, Playa Carola, Galápagos Interpretation Center.

Today the perspective changes. We’ll sail south to the untamed, uninhabited Española Island, a true floating evolutionary sanctuary. After landing, you’ll begin a hike of about two hours that takes you into the heart of one of the most impressive wildlife colonies on the planet.

Here, Nazca boobies, marine iguanas, sea lions, mockingbirds, and lava lizards share the ground with you. If you travel between May and December, you’ll witness the majestic albatross ritual, as they choose this island as their only home in the archipelago.

After lunch on board and a snorkeling session to explore its underwater world, you’ll return to port with the certainty that you’ve walked through a territory frozen in time.

Activities: hiking, endemic flora and fauna watching, snorkeling.
Highlights: Española Island.

A short 40-minute flight will take you over the archipelago to land in Isabela, the youngest and most active island in the Galápagos. After settling in, the morning will be spent at Tintoreras Islet, a fascinating labyrinth where lava shelters life: here you can spot penguins, sea lions, and reef sharks resting in basalt channels before slipping into the water for snorkeling.

After lunch at the port, the landscape changes completely. You’ll head out on foot along the Wetlands Trail, an idyllic setting where the silence is broken only by the sounds of nature.

You’ll walk surrounded by an oasis of mangroves and lagoons, home to giant tortoises and finches.

Activities: hiking, endemic flora and fauna watching, snorkeling
Highlights: Wetlands Trail, Isabela, Tintoreras Islet.

This is the big physical challenge of your expedition: 16 km of pure hiking into the Earth’s depths. We’ll ride by bus up to the highlands of Isabela, where the vegetation shifts to reveal the colossal crater of Sierra Negra Volcano, the second-widest active caldera in the world. Taking in this imposing landscape will move you with its sheer scale.

The trail continues to Volcán Chico, a landscape of fumaroles, sulfur deposits, and frozen lava rivers in incredible colors. It’s not just a hike; it’s a journey to the origin of the archipelago’s geography.

Activities: hiking, volcanic landscape viewing, endemic flora and fauna watching.
Highlights: Sierra Negra, Volcán Chico.

Your exploration of Isabela’s hidden corners ends at the Sulfur Mines, a little-visited site that offers a close-up look at the islands’ volcanic activity.

The trail, short but fascinating, will let you see up close how the earth breathes through its fumaroles. As we descend from the highlands, the landscape will treat us to a beautiful contrast as we pass the flamingo lagoon. The sulfur vapors, the mineral colors of the ground, and the pink elegance of these birds cutting through the arid scenery create an otherworldly setting.

After lunch at the port, we’ll say goodbye to Isabela and cross the ocean by speedboat to Santa Cruz, the central heart of the archipelago, ready for the final stage of the adventure.

Activities: hiking, volcanic landscape and wildlife viewing, boating, endemic flora and fauna watching.
Highlights: Sulfur Mines, flamingo lagoon, Isabela, Santa Cruz

We dedicate this day to discovering the striking contrasts of Santa Cruz. In the morning, we’ll head up into the island’s highlands to come face to face with giant tortoises in their wildest, freest environment.

After lunch, we’ll head back down to the port for the last great hike of the trip: a 3 km trail through a forest of giant cacti that ends at Tortuga Bay, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

We’ll walk to Playa Mansa, a calm-water spot ideal for swimming and spotting iguanas, finches, and juvenile sharks swimming close to shore. As night falls, we recommend a stroll along the lit-up pier, watching the nighttime marine life in motion, and enjoying your last night on the islands at an unhurried pace.

Activities: hiking, flora and fauna watching, beach.
Highlights: Tortoise ranch, Tortuga Bay, Playa Mansa, Santa Cruz.

If time allows before your transfer to the airport, we recommend visiting the Charles Darwin Research Station or taking one last walk around Puerto Ayora.

Finally, you’ll begin your journey back, crossing the Itabaca Channel by ferry, accompanied by our team all the way to check-in at Baltra Airport.

You leave with worn boots, a body tired from the effort, and memories of adventures that are now part of your story. You return to the mainland having experienced the Galápagos from the inside, leaving your mark on trails few people stop to explore.
